ISAGS launches a new publication about the shortage of essential medicines in the South American region

ISAGS launches the publication “Situation of Essential Medicines with Risk of Shortage with Emphasis in South American Countries”, a study developed by the Institute‘s specialist in Medicines and Health Technologies, Dr. Ángela Acosta, in collaboration with the Andean Organizsm of Health – Hipólito Unanue Agreement (ORAS-CONHU).

In the investigation, you will find the causes of the shortage of different medicines in the South American region; the situation of stock-outs of essential medicines at a regional and global level; and also a complete list of medicines shortage supplies in the South American region reported by the Ministries of Health of the region; in addition to possible strategies for approaching the problem.

All information was offered by Ministries of Health of UNASUR member countries: Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela. The information was consolidated and later analyzed for the characterization. Likewise, a review of gray literature and websites of the health agencies of each country was conducted.
