Intervention of UNASUL South American Council of Health through the 68th World Health Assembly - SSFFC

Intervention of USAN, titled "Substandard, spurious, falsely-labeled, falsified or counterfeit medical products - SSFFC", developed by South American Council of Health through the 68th World Health Assembly, which took place between May 18 and 26, 2015, Geneva, Switzerland. As central themes in the document, it is possible to highlight the recognition of the ability of Member States to establish recommendations to coordinate technical principles on the prevention and control of Substandard, spurious, falsely-labeled, falsified or counterfeit medical products (SSFFC). Also claims that, although many States express an interest in technically and economically supporting the execution of the activities inherent in the theme of SSFFC drugs, there are still financing gaps. So, requests the Director General to carry out the procedures needed to cover these gaps. It also highlights the debate about the responsibility exercised by the national health authority, which is sovereign in setting up measures to prevent and combat drug counterfeiting and should not therefore have legitimacy subjected to a third party foreign agency. Also paying attention to the progress within the framework of the Surveillance Project and WHO's Global Monitoring and requests further links and coordination of activities with the Mechanism of Member States. Finally, expresses concern about the proliferation of international initiatives concerning the fight against SSFFC medical products that ignore the ongoing negotiations and consensus already achieved within the WHO framework.
